New Grounds features works by outstanding New Mexican artists and a selected group of internationally known printmakers from Europe, Japan and Mexico. Although the gallery’s main focus is on original prints such as etchings, monotypes and mezzotints, it also carries paintings and mixed media work.
Founded in 1996 by its director Regina Held, New Grounds started out solely as a printmaking facility offering local artists access to printmaking equipment, classes and alternative, non-toxic supplies. Exhibitions were soon to follow and have become an equally important aspect of New Grounds. To accommodate the growing business, in 2000 New Grounds expanded into a 3850 square foot space in Albuquerque’s prestigious Nob Hill.
With more than 70 artists represented by the galley, subject matters and styles range from contemporary to traditional with hundreds of framed and unframed works to choose from. Exhibitions rotate every four weeks featuring a solo exhibition in the main gallery and new work by gallery artists throughout the printmaking facility.
