The Transcendental Tea Shop
Blue Rain Gallery is pleased to announce The Transcendental Tea Shop, a show of new paintings by still-life and portrait painter, Roseta Santiago. The show will be on view from August 23 – September 7, 2013 with an artist reception on Friday, August 23rd from 5 – 7pm.
Santiago reverently paints objects of interest such as historic pueblo pottery jars paired with well-worn moccasins and historic Navajo weavings, or slightly meditative portraits of Native American figures cloaked in robes with deeply earnest expressions. Her paintings are at once magical and grounded. They evoke the past and present, mystery and truth.
When asked about her newest body of work, the artist states, “The Transcendental Tea Shop,” represents a place where my imagination exists. This place, my personal ‘Land of Enchantment,’ is a special metaphorical space where I regularly reside and let my imagination run free…it is from within the ‘Transcendental Tea Shop’ that my visions materialize into paintings. Santiago also credits her multi-cultural heritage (Hispanic and Asian along with European roots) for the choices she makes to explore a wide variety of cultures and time periods in her work: “In conjuring up my compositions, I synthesize imagined and live subjects, bringing them seamlessly together in romantic and lyrical fashion. It is this reality, both real and imagined, that most interests me and I am compelled to share it with others.”
