Sam Orlandi was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He has been intrigued by the ephemeral quality of discarded objects since he can remember. Working instinctively with found, collected and chosen materials, and establishing a conversation with the viewer is the primary objective. As a result, the work becomes a conscious act of aggressive yet extremely selective repurposing. The symbols, themes and languages that inhabit his enigmatic images represent an ongoing internal dialogue: A running commentary about the nature of his heritage and how it relates to immigration, life in the USA, and the challenges of living in a global community.
