DESCRIPTION

Take a holiday stroll in the Civic Center and check out our two new exhibitions! The best time to view our brand new Grove Street window installation

The Higher We Rise, The Further I Seem, by Matthew Gottschalk is when the sun is low. Gottschalk's playful structures are activated with projections that emphasize the ever-changing nature of our urban landscape. Then look for the surprise. In his installations, Gottschalk is known for creating hand-carved wooden marionettes as protagonists. These marionettes serve as extensions of the artist, enabling him to playfully insert himself into a variety of landscapes and environments. A single marionette is placed into this installation, representing not only the artist but also the everyman. (To see more of Matthew's work check out his solo exhibition at Alter Space.)
