DESCRIPTION

Traywick Contemporary is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent work by Bay Area artist David Sleeth.

David Sleeth's sculptures distill shapes to their most basic forms. Moving away from his traditional materials of wood and stone, for his new body of work the artist enlists cardboard to transcend the limitations of materials and methods of fabrication. Sleeth's sculptures reclaim the organic, yet mechanically produced, material as something natural. Sheets of cardboard are fixed together, then carved and reduced to bold physical abstractions. The resulting sculptures are intricately layered and distinctly textured, as if more inherently wooden than wood itself.

This will be David Sleeth's first exhibition since receiving his MFA from Mills College in 2011.
