San Francisco, August 1-31, 2012:  The Friends of Sharon Art Studio (FOSAS) are partnering with FLAX Art & Design, to bring to San Francisco art enthusiasts a show by the artists of Sharon Art Studio. Visit FLAX throughout August for a free exhibition of Sharon Art Studio faculty artwork. The exhibition includes work by instructors: Matthew R. Burns--Mixed Media, Dina Competente--China Painting, Olivia Competente--Jewelry and Metal Arts, Carlo Grünfeld--Drawing and Painting, Mary Harden--Watercolor and Pen & Ink, as well as Drawing instructors--Dawood Marion, Christopher Reiger, and Jacqueline Ruben. The following instructors will also be participating in live demonstrations every Saturday from 1-4pm for the duration of the exhibit:

  • August 4: Dawood Marion
  • August 11: Carlo Grünfeld
  • August 18: Matthew R. Burns
  • August 25: Dina Competente

The Friends of Sharon Arts is a non-profit organization that serves as an advocate on behalf of the Sharon Art Studio, San Francisco’s largest community art center that has offered affordable art classes for youth, adults, and seniors for nearly 50 years. Winner of the Best of the Best Award, Bay Area Parent Magazine 2011 in their reader voted segment-- Art Classes, Sharon Art Studio, offers a myriad of high-quality classes and workshops in ceramics, leaded and fused glass, jewelry and metal arts, drawing, watercolor, mixed media, and more, in the historic Sharon Building in Golden Gate Park. Annually, the program serves approximately 1,000 children and teens, as well as 2,500 adults and seniors.

FOSAS is devoted to sustaining and enhancing the Sharon Art Studio’s goal to promote artistic development, craftsmanship, and creative expression. For more than 20 years, FOSAS has partnered with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department (SFRPD) to sustain and enhance the studio and its programming.
