Performance by Jeremiah Jenkins at artMRKT
Ever Gold Gallery is pleased to announce an ongoing installation at artMRKT by artist Jeremiah Jenkins in addition to Ever Gold's booth, 611.
Bay area artist Jeremiah Jenkins will be staging a demonstration during the San Francisco Art Market art fair. He will be organizing himself into a solitary occupying encampment of the fair until tear gassed or until the fair ends. Representing "the 0.00000032%" Jenkins will be drawing a line and standing up to the other 99.99999978%. The inequality between individuals and everyone else must stop!
The occupy movement was one of the biggest stories in the news this past year. While I personally support the message, I felt a bit left out. I grew up poor, have worked my whole life, and am currently in one of the lowest tax brackets possible. The paradox is that as an artist I find myself drinking wine, eating brie, and enjoying art as much as any one percenter. I propose to occupy Art Market for the duration of the fair as a representative of myself, the 0.00000032 percent. My encampment will be only big enough for myself and will have all the things I need to be there for the couple of days. My equipment will be a mix of practical and posh. I will wear a tuxedo everyday and have wine and cheese. I will not be protesting anything, but instead I will just be there representing my singular perspective and my personal class. The goal is to bridge the gap that divides the 99 and the 1 percents, by combining both lifestyles without conflict.
