Sandra Ortiz Taylor
871 Fine Arts is pleased to present an exhibition of the work of Sandra Ortiz Taylor. This exhibition will be on view from April 10th until May 31st.
Sandra Taylor has been working and teaching in San Francisco since the 1960s. She has exhibited her work in San Francisco, San Diego, New Mexico, Wyoming and Pennsylvania. She is a mixed media artist, whose work springs from a narrative impulse, reflecting her interest in both literature and art--a love for language and ideas as well as line and color.
This exhibition will feature both collages and assemblages. Many of the collages are stamp related and represent homages to some of her favorite artists, i.e., Hannalore Baron, Joseph Cornell, Ray Johnson, Robert Rauschenberg, and Kurt Schwitters. In the collages, she approximates these artists' styles.
Her highly inventive assemblages utilize found objects and are invested with layers of meaning and memory.
Her work is represented in numerous public and private collections.
