Rich with Nothing
HungryMan Gallery presents Rich with Nothing an exhibition of paintings by Chicago based painter Austin Eddy and sculptures from Elizabeth Jaeger, a Portland based artist.
Austin Eddy’s paintings reflect his focus on the aesthetic and his obsession with print and pattern in his skillfully executed interiors. In his most recent paintings color playsan important role in the motif of chairs. As a direct examination of portraiture, Eddy’s paintings invite the viewer to immerse oneself in the space created–to become a subject. Austin Eddy (b. 1986 Boston, MA) now lives and works in Chicago, IL. He received his BFA in paintingfrom the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2009. He has shown in Chicago, Massachusetts, and mostrecently at Jolie Laide Gallery in Philadelphia.
Elizabeth Jaeger for this show has created life size sculptures of human figures based on an adolescent experience at North Beach’s Roaring 20’s. Her narrative is rhizomatic, that is to say adopts no narrative linearity from figure to figure. Yet, when read together as an installation, rather than as individual works, they play out their intent. Elizabeth Jaeger, born in San Francisco California, is receiving her BA at Lewis and Clark College in 2011. Her work has been shown in San Francisco, Chicago, London, Berlin, as well as France.
