Seager Gray Gallery presents the first in a two part Summer Salon Series.  The July exhibition focuses on materials and brings together works in clay\, glass\, stone\, porcelain\, wood\, found objects\, thread\ , paint\, paper and clayboard.  With their relocation to Mill Valley\, the gallery has refined their program and enhanced their visibility with an eye toward attracting more national and internationally known artists. Their c ommitment is to continue to represent works that combine content with a mas tery of materials.

Seager Gray has assembled an impressive ro ster of artists. From the incredible Dapple Grey Bird by Jane Rosen\ , created from kiln-cast pigmented glass on recycled limestone to the touch ing bronze sculpture\, Feline by New Orleans artist Stephen Paul Day \, they sought to spotlight artists intimately familiar with the way their materials behave.  David Ruddell’s highly crafted sculptural boats navigate minimalist color planes created from blackboard\, cement and wood.  Joe Br ubaker and Cathy Rose assemble wood\, porcelain and found materials to brin g their other-worldly characters to life.  Ann Hollingsworth’s experimentat ions with pigmented glass were instrumental in pushing the medium forward.  Her sculpture combines natural materials with varying degrees of luminosit y – studies in both form and receptivity to light.  Sibylle Peretti’s Tw o Genies are porcelain works of identical girls whose heads are bent to ward one another. Their lifelike scale and pure white surfaces are in contr ast to Nancy Legge’s smaller\, abstracted figures in clay and raku.  Helen Stanley’s walnut ink and watercolor on clayboard\, masterful oil paintings by Kristen Garneau and drawings on monoprint by Sylvia Gonzalez examine the use of various materials on two dimensional surfaces.  This examination wo uld not be complete without the work of Lisa Kokin.  Works from her series with thread and found photographs add a final  dimension to the collection.
