Our things in our hands must be equals\, comrades… !
Alexander Rodchenko\, Paris\, 1925.\n\n\n
In a materialistic culture there is a gap betwe en process and material. The relationship between the producer and the cons umer is veiled. Material objects are fetishized as exchange-value is emphas ized over use-value and the market fills the gap with new desires and ident ities\, provided by the shiny new “things in our hands…” Pieces-of-you-top ia is an exhibition and alternative residency project exploring a new kind of materialism. The artists in the exhibition are engaged in a practice whe re object and process exist in tandem\, with shifting values. In some insta nces the object may be a small remnant of the process\, but the process is indebted to the object for its existence. Process brings us closer to the m aterial. Through process\, the material instructs us how we might engage wi th our material world and\, in turn\, reconnect with ourselves. Unveiling t he making behind each of the artists projects\, this residency exposes a hu manness within material objects\, and our humanistic relationship to them.\n\n
