\n

Call &\; Response

\n

\n

Opening Reception: Satur day\, January 8th\, 7-10 pm

\n

\n

In music\, cal l and response refers to two successive and distinct phrases usually pl ayed by different musicians\, a conversation-like exchange of musical state ments\, one being the call\, and the other the response.  The paintings in this exhibition were created through a visual call &\; res ponse between artists chosen by local artist Robert Minervini.

\n

Th e exhibition features the work of 10 painters from around the country.   Pa rticipants were asked to step outside their usual studio practice and engag e with another artist.  The paintings featured were created during a four-m onth period of conversation and experimentation.  Each pair of artists set their own guidelines for their collaboration based on location\, previous h istories\, and artistic background.  This exhibition is the culmination of those collaborations.

\n

It is the hope of the curator that this exhibition will create a platform for discussion about the role of autonomy\, communi ty\, influence\, and the self in the arts\, as well as shed light on the cr eative process.
