Description

Go is the national game of Japan.  I enjoy playing the game, and and also use it's structures and forces to create art.  The game used as a basis for this image was played in 1577 when Honinbo Sansa (white) defeated Kashio Rigen (black) after 278 moves. The game may seem somewhat simplistic by today's standards - non aggressive defensive and growth moves for the most part -  but the level of intelligence needed for this kind of competition is surprising considering when it was played.  There is a fairly complicated seki, or stand off position, in the lower right quadrant.
