DESCRIPTION

To purchase quality artworks and amass a beautiful and coherent collection need the personal implication of the collector. Everybody – from the gallery owner to the art dealer via the expert – would put on his one-liner. But if those external information and opinions are useful, to my mind, it is even more important to listen to our own judgment and to be in constant look for our own pleasure. This is the advice I always give to the new collectors.

Nowadays everyone is moving from one buzz to another and the super reactivity of the speculators, investors and collectors is scrambling the cards by continuously putting new artists under the spotlight via numerous auction sales, happenings and highly mediatised performances. That is why I propose to come back to a work maybe a little more old-school, a work in which the artwork, the painting is clearly the only thing that matters.

Is the gallery a communication agency? I don’t think so. To me, its role consists in finding the artists with a true hallmark and a sincere and original artwork and to guide them… Hit the road together in a way. For example, in the catalogues we are editing for each exhibition we do, there are as many evidences of the artist’s evolution and the work he accomplished with the gallery.

In fifteen or twenty years, the market will rate those artists and build their reputation. Being the new Basquiat is not given to everyone but for some of them… who knows?  Meanwhile, collect with your eyes…
