Curatorial Arts Intern

The Exhibitions Department’s Arts Intern will serve as a Curatorial Assistant on MoCADA’s summer exhibition, as well as our Public Art exhibition (curated in collaboration with Kendal Henry). She/he will work closely with the Exhibitions Director to plan an accompanying artist talk for the exhibition, as well as assist in creating a catalog and planning an opening celebration. The intern will be able to work on the exhibition from its installation to its archival documentation, and have first-hand involvement with all exhibition-related materials and programming.


  • Excellent writing skills
  • Extremely detail oriented
  • Strong skills in executing research projects from start to finish
  • Adept at creating systems for organizing and presenting information
  • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills and comfortable reaching out for help when needed and asking questions
  • Interested in gaining experience in the contemporary art world of NYC

Community Programming Arts Intern

The Community Program Intern will have the opportunity to work closely with the Community Programming Director during the department’s busiest season, focusing on monthly block parties and leading up to curating and executing Soul of Brooklyn Week, June 3-11, a series of events hosted throughout central Brooklyn. The intern will also help with coordinating logistics and staffing our annual KIDFlix Film Festival, and planning MoCADA’s “Journey Home” program, a trip to Kenya scheduled for September.

The intern will be organized, outgoing, and comfortable multi-tasking in a fast-paced environment. She/he will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work independently as well as with a group. She/he must be comfortable in a management position and with large, outdoor events. The intern must be available on Saturdays.

Education Intern

The Education Department’s Intern will work toward the production of our annual MoCADA Apprenticeship Program (MAP), a three-week art intensive summer program designed to enhance 25 students’ creative skills by immersing them in a college-level fine arts environment. In partnership with the Art Department at LIU Brooklyn (Long Island University), MAP offers support on all levels, including portfolio building, networking and studio instruction. This summer will mark MAP’s third year, and as such we hope to grow the program in this year with the help of our Arts Intern. In addition to focusing on all aspects of this program, the intern will assist the Education Director and Education Coordinator in planning and executing educational programs related to the summer exhibitions, as well as preparing for MoCADA’s Artists-in-Schools program, which begins in the fall.

Ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, outgoing, self-motivated, extremely interested in museum education and or/arts administration, and have a sense of humor.

Marketing Intern

The Marketing Intern will assist with attracting and sustaining new audiences, generating attendance, and creating marketing strategies. Other duties include assistance with creating, promoting, and evaluating Museum marketing initiatives as well as assisting the marketing department in promoting Museum events and programs. This may include performing market research, contacting constituents via phone or e-mail, distributing collateral materials, creating and/or staffing promotional events, and managing the website. The intern will assist building relationships with our online community via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and communicating upcoming and current MoCADA exhibitions, events, and educational programming.


  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues
  • A strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Apps
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Experience with Photoshop, and/or InDesign preferred
  • Social media proficiency
  • Experience with website content management a plus
