Description

In “More Americans than gringos “the title is an expression of the present political climate of my Mexican and American heritage. The work is invigorated by Mexican Corridos which are narrative songs and poems often about oppression, spirituality, God, history, daily life, and other socially relevant topics. In this work, I am concerned with the metaphysical and political which is why the Corrido format is appropriate. At the far right of the painting, an entity is speaking the world. The voices in the art translate to invader, gringo, and sons of Anglo-Saxon.  The lyrics come from the Mexican Norteño band Los Tigres del Norte song titled Somos Mas Americanos, which is a Corrido about history, respect, and dignity towards the Mexicans and Natives that already lived in what we know as the Southwest long before the Anglos came and occupied the territory.
