HANG ART presents a solo exhibition by artist Tim Yankosky, titled Measure Twice, Cut Once. The exhibition opens February 1, 2010 and will be on view through February 15, 2010. A reception for the artist will be held on First Thursday, February 4, from 6 to 8pm at 567 Sutter Street, San Francisco.

In this show Tim Yankosky uses vintage measuring tapes to set the stage for these highly personal narrative paintings. He often uses birds or fish as central characters and symbols of self-portrait. The constant play between numbers, texture, and the character are central to Yankosky’s work. The artist paints his pieces in acrylics and oils, often enticing the viewer with playful images. Upon closer examination this lighthearted imagery actually embodies a more complex and autobiographical meaning. Yankosky’s art is a collection of experiences communicated via his unique visual language. He explores these experiences by exposing the fragility, unfairness and struggles of everyday life.

The power of completion and maintaining control is fundamental to Yankosky’s paintings and serves to imbue a rich and powerful content throughout. The subjects of his works are rendered with great precision and skill though still retain a spontaneity and sense of impulse. Yankosky does not shy from revealing brush strokes in many of his paintings, an example of how he relinquishes control to his tools.

Originally from New Jersey, Yankosky has exhibited his work around the U.S., with shows at Estel Gallery, William Merrill Gallery, and Space 743 Gallery. In 2004 he was included in the Hearts of San Francisco citywide installation, and his piece is now on permanent display at Mo Mo's restaurant in SOMA. His creations are included in a variety of private and corporate collections. Yankosky currently lives and works in San Francisco.

HANG ART is located at 567 Sutter Street, between Mason and Powell Streets. Gallery hours are Monday to Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm. For further information or high resolution images, please call 415 434 4264.
