FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
On view January 14 through February 18, 2010

SALOMON ARTS GALLERY is proud to present Elizabeth Gregory-Gruen’s exhibition “CUT-WORK 2010 “.

The first in the series  “NATURE AS ARTCHITECT” was initiated by cutting separate layers of paper using a free-hand scalpel cutting technique creating a multi - layered outcome capturing light and ever changing shadows. Using only a steady hand and clear mind with the cutting blade of a surgical scalpel Elizabeth achieves the purity of elegant serenity.

This peaceful backdrop cut entirely in white paper inspired her to push further into the human psyche, to examine the act of destruction. Taking a 12-gauge shotgun she spontaneously blasted select pieces of her work to elevate the experience to an emotional crescendo. This body of work was shown as the second installment, “CUT-WORK”.

The evolution progresses in “CUT-WORK 2010”, encapsulating the whole emotional and visual experience. With color and increased scale added to the process. Elizabeth continues   her study and examines the paradoxes and duality found in the human condition.

Elizabeth Gregory-Gruen, is a third generation artist with a parallel career in fashion design. She is currently working for the New York based label Michael Kors. Her design work has appeared in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and In Style magazines. She currently resides in New York City with her husband, photographer Bob Gruen.

Elizabeth Gregory-Gruen’s  work has been reviewed by The Architect Newspaper and she is currently featured in the NY ARTS magazine.
