Alphonse Berber presents Code of Symbols
Alphonse Berber Gallery is pleased to present Code of Symbols, an exhibition of new works by Timothy Kadish.
In his most recent works, the 28-year-old Kadish inquires into the nature of the contemporary icon in vibrant, polytextural fields of color stocked with a playful assortment of received images. Blips from video-game screens, doodled-over pages from children’s books, apples that seem equal parts hi-tech and pentateuch — these symbols and others appear in the paintings (alongside swaths of tar, cement or sculpted lead) as testaments to Kadish’s profound respect for the visual mythologies that define our age. In these powerful dreamscapes, the iconosphere is retranslated into a personal code of symbols; the ship-wrecked postmodern totem undergoes a sea-change into something rich and strange.
