FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

JEANNETTE SURA SABABA: HEAVEN, HELL, AND ME

One-Woman Exhibition

Exhibition Dates: May 1st – May 31st, 2009

Rio II Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent paintings by Chilean artist Jeannette Sura Sababa with an opening reception to be held on Friday, May 1st, from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Inspired by mid-century gestural paintings, Jeannette Sura Sababa’s new acrylic works on canvas maintain a delicate balance between abstraction and representation. She states: “Part of my creative process is the building of surface through layered textures, colors, and values to make a strong, expressive as well as radiant movement.” This approach is not to depict nature’s elements in a literal way, but to regenerate and transform them into organic forms to form dynamic cycles of life, death, and energy. What is notable to behold in her rich surfaces is the vitality in addition to the subtlety of colors, interweaving brushstrokes into magical and dreamlike environments filled with memory and human experience.

Jeannette Sura Sababa was born in Valparaiso, Chile.  She studied art in New York and Santiago, Chile, and currently lives and works in New York City.

Heaven, Hell, and Me is curated by Mariano Del Rosario, a New York artist, writer, art instructor, and independent curator.
