DESCRIPTION

Losar is the Tibetan word for New Year. Celebrated in Bhutan, Nepal, and Tibet, Losar is one the most important holidays across the Himalayas. Seasoned ensemble Chaksam-pa performs traditional Tibetan music and dance in honor of Losar. The presentation will include a Monastic dance and Tibetan Opera, along with folk songs and dances from the varied regions of Tibet. In celebration of Chaksam-pa’s 20th anniversary, four artists from out of town will join the Bay Area Chaksam-pa troupe for this 2009 Losar performance.

Visitors can experience the changing seasons, tastes, smells, sounds, and aesthetics of chanoyu—the Japanese way of tea—in special programs held in our Japanese Tearoom.
