DESCRIPTION

Pratt Institute’s Department of Fine Arts will present an exhibition of selected works in a variety of media by second-year M.F.A. degree candidates. The exhibition, titled Signs of Life: in and out of time and place, was curated by Sara Reisman, an independent curator and artistic director of the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation. Reisman curated the show based on the perspectives of Pratt artists from more than a dozen countries, locating two common threads of experience in their work: a desire for movement that confronts a profound sense of place and related attempts to capture time. Works on display will address notions of home, self, and community through both social engagement and traditional and more experimental media.

Signs of Life is free and open to the public and is organized by the Pratt Artists League and the Fine Arts Department. It is being presented as part of Pratt Shows 2015, an annual series of events and exhibitions that features the year’s boldest ideas and best work in design, fine arts, fashion, film/video, photography, and more.

Participating artists include:

Lana Abu-Shamat, Haley Kattner Allen, Aseel AlYaqoub, Dogan Arslanoglu, Tal Barel, Han Chengxun, Manuel Gomez Crespo, Kevin Dudley, Alex Forestier, Omri Harmelin, Bryan Hutchinson, Ayesha Kamal Khan, Suhee Kang, Kiseob Kim, Matt Kleberg, Alexandra Kostakis, Caroline Larsen, Michael Levin, Lara Nasser, Lesley Peterson, Ada Potter, Mirland Terlonge, Parul Verma, and JxMarie.

Additionally, an M.F.A. exhibition of work by all second-year graduate students will be on view in The Rubelle and Norman Schafler Gallery on Pratt’s Brooklyn Campus from June 3 through late September.
