Victor Spinelli

Diver UP Showdown

On Saturday, April 4th, Sulkin/Secant Gallery located in the Bergamot Station Arts Center of Santa Monica , California presents a collaborative show of urban and contemporary artists who will interpret a photograph that Victor Spinelli took almost 10 years ago in Ibiza, Spain. The photograph is titled “Diver UP!”. Victor initially wanted to mix the soft female body with the man made industrial bronze helmet while keeping the women anonymous. This balanced juxtaposition is what makes this image so inviting and alluring. Victor starting painting on his work about 5 years ago. In 2012 he created the first of his flag series, a USA (Yankee) flag and has since been commissioned to paint about 20 different flags on “Diver UP!”. They are now hanging all around the world.

Victor's archive of photographs have been derived from close to 70 countries that he has traveled to and also from living in Mykonos & Ibiza for many, many years. With a vast collection of portraits of celebrities and Olympians, Victors work has been published in over 35 magazines. Spinelli Galleries in Shanghai opened 2 years ago and Victor is represented by the Westbank Gallery in London.

The names of the 15-20 prominent artists who will create a piece for the show will be released soon.
