Kira Lynn Harris
KIRA LYNN HARRIS is an artist whose minimalist work often posits an intersection of the formal concerns of space, light and the phenomenological with issues of individual subjectivity as well as issues of culture, race and gender. She was born in Los Angeles, CA and has lived and worked in New York City since 1998. Harris received her MFA from the California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, CA and completed the Whitney Independent Study Program, New York, NY in 1999. Her undergraduate work was done at the University of California at Santa Cruz, where she was able to take advantage of an education abroad program, allowing her to live for periods in France and then Togo in West Africa. Her current media includes photography, video and sound as well as installations which often provide a disorienting experience for the viewer. In her installations she is concerned with destabilization and re-orientation. Harris' work has been reviewed in TheNew York Times, Flash Art, Time Out New York, Zingmagazine, the Los Angeles Times, Artweek and LA Weekly. Harris' exhibition marks her first solo show in New York
