Grotesque Taxidermy of the Feminine Mystique, a group exhibition curated by Aimee Hertog, opens on Saturday, September 6, 2014, 11-5 pm with a reception and performance by Katya Grokhovsky at 2 pm, 407-A1 in Colonels Row, Governor's Island. The exhibit, a part of the Governor's Island Art Fair, will be open Saturday and Sunday 11-5 through September 28.

In Grotesque Taxidermy of the Feminine Mystique, artists Al Benkin, Katya Grokhovsky, Aimee Hertog, Amanda Madrigal, Suprina and Ventiko create work that exemplifies this definition. Their art is filled with beautiful monsters that invite the viewer to see, hear and feel the work viscerally. The discernible qualities of the grotesque are unveiled, and the observer can choose to look or be repulsed and turn away, but either way the work has the intended impact.
