JAUS is very pleased to present the group exhibition "New Painting from Finland and Sweden" curated by Stephen Parise.

The idea behind the exhibition, ''New Painting from Finland and Sweden'', is not based on some old fashioned need to distinguish current trends in painting according to one criteria. Rather, the intention has been to steal a chance to concentrate and to give these paintings enough room, enough space to exist and to happen. The selections are not all-encompassing surveys. Each artist chose personal works seeking to communicate with the viewer on a level that is not general, but intimate.

The artists in the exhibition are from Nordic countries – specifically Finland and Sweden. The reasons for this were not tied up with any ideas that there is or should be a typically 'Nordic look'. The decision to invite each artist was made according to the artist/curator's personal judgement, and do not reflect any attempt to make a comprehensive survey of the region which would, in any case, be futile.

The exhibition is sponsored in part by:

Taiteen edistämiskeskus / Arts Promotion Centre Finland
