DESCRIPTION

In her first exhibition since her 2012 – 13 traveling museum retrospective “Catching the Light,” Lois Dodd (b. 1927) continues her exploration of familiar motifs from her everyday world of New York, Maine and the Delaware Water Gap with 22 oil paintings depicting subjects such as weathered New England out buildings, bright flowering plants, views from interior windows, and nocturnal moonlighted skies – all painted plein air.

Eleven drawings by Dodd’s contemporary Anne Arnold (b. 1925) serve as a follow-up to the gallery’s 2012 survey of Arnold’s sculptures in wood, ceramic, cast bronze and soft materials from the 1950s through 80s. Her graphite and ink drawings of animals are smart and humorous, and executed with assurance and whimsy.
