DESCRIPTION
NYC. Chelsea's Viridian Artists Inc. is pleased to present an intriguing exhibition of collages and monoprints by the artist, Rima Grad. This will be Grad’s second solo show at Viridian.

Grad has titled the show "Formative Years" and, as with her previous work, the intimacy of scale and subject matter is enticing. But this time, instead of working from images gleaned from others, the starting off point for Grad’s work are fragmented family photographs from a particular era. Personal memories, fantasies and dreams, reality and illusions, provoke a universal quality equally intimate to us all. Viewed independently and as a whole, the pieces in this exhibition communicate questions about memories and how they manifest themselves as we age.

Drawing with colored pencil, crayon and pastels, Grad has enhanced the surfaces of these "works on paper". By so layering, Grad gives depth to the composition, but more un-expectedly, a mystery for the viewer to ponder.

The artist, who began her career as a printmaker and graphic artist, started to work in collage in 1993. Grad has exhibited widely since 1975, and her work is held by numerous private and corporate collections.
