The Chicago Society of Artists is a non-profit organization begun in 1887. The Chicago Society of Artists is now well into its second century and is the oldest continuing association of artists in the United States. Since its inception and its incorporation in 1889, the Chicago Society of Artists had as its primary objective, the advancement of art in Chicago and the cultivation of a climate to support the production and display of member art works.

The Chicago Society of Artists plays an important role in the arts – often far beyond the boundaries of Chicago – by providing an atmosphere in which artists come together and share their art experiences. One of the primary functions of the Chicago Society of Artists is a continuing series of exhibitions and educational programs. Much of the CSA’s renown is due to the versatility of its membership. The membership is composed of painters, print makers, graphic artists, photographers, sculptors, art critics and art educators.

Chicago Society of Artist members such as the Albrights, Frances Foy, Frances Badger, A. Raymond Katz, and LeRoy Neiman established and maintained the high standards for CSA membership. The legacy of CSA continued over the course of the 20th century as its members participated in local, national, and international exhibitions and gallery representations. Current CSA members continue to add to the tradition of excellence established by the CSA founding members, displaying their art in exhibitions and galleries in many countries throughout the world. Member works have been purchased and included in several private collections and major art museums.
