A New American Botanical: Plants of Peru, Florida and Arizona
MF Cardamone's ethnobotanical mixed-media works on paper inventively record the histories of plants. Her specimens are collected and combined with images, symbols, and words that contemporize the methodical traditions of botanical illustration. MF's recent trip to the Amazon inspired a series including a work of thepsychoactive Ayahuasca plant and one that includes the Cuare plant that can be used to make poison darts. Her original and sold out "peyote" has been replaced with a new edition, a psychedelic 60's groovy "Peyote with Deer". The results are complex visual narratives that reveal the science, history, and uniqueness of their subjects. Her work is a place where tradition and contemporary culture meet and art and botany blend. Original pieces are produced in small editions and printed on 100% cotton rag watercolor paper using archival inks and are individually embellished.
