DESCRIPTION

In this solo exhibition, "Paper Proof", Kevin brings together his latest creations developed in editions as well as one-of-a-kind pieces and from a small to monumental scale. The title of the show references the starting point for Kevin's artwork: paper.

With each fold and crease of paper captured in bronze, stainless steel and aluminum, Kevin Box's cast sculptures record inspired thoughts and creative forms in work that presents a harmonious balance of the organic, natural world and the hand-made.  In this solo exhibition, "Paper Proof", Kevin brings together his latest creations developed in editions as well as one-of-a-kind pieces and from a small to monumental scale.  The title of the show references the starting point for Kevin's artwork:  paper.  A blank piece of paper is a place to record thoughts and plan out new possibilities; as Kevin describes, “I see a piece of paper as a clean slate, white as light, perfect and full of potential.”  His sculptures use paper as the starting point for both the ‘organic burnout’ casting process as well as his final subject matter.  Often, these crease patterns derive from unfolding complex origami.  Integral to Kevin’s artistic process is collaborating with other artists and origami masters, particularly Dr. Robert Lang in the design of new artwork.  In each crease and intersection of folds, Kevin sees a metaphor for how we connect and affect the world around us.  Kevin's abstract, metal wall-hung paper works permanently document mesmerizing, abstract patterns in folded paper.  The gallery and sculpture garden will be full of both free-standing and wall-hung cast sculpture showing a range of Kevin's abstract designs, origami animals, rock/paper/scissor works, folded planes and boats.
