Almost six months after Hurricane Sandy, artists across our region are still putting the pieces of their lives back together, getting into their (in some cases, devastated) studios, and creating new work. Might we not ask what other factors rock our creative community on a daily basis, whether or not floodwaters hit? Economic crises, the demands of family and job, the changing face of artworld politics and promotion. Artists are innovators and problem solvers. This show will acknowledge rising tides of all stripe (political, social, psychological) in the hope of drawing attention to the new forms that result -- to the bright and shiny treasures that have now washed ashore.
13 artist-members of the Sculptors Guild will be showing works — stand-alone sculptures, site-specific projects — in such diverse mediums as found-wood, recycled plastic, bronze, glass, and porcelain.
