For She is Inside Out & Outside In
Winston Wächter Fine Art is pleased to announce an exhibition of new works by artist Angelina Nasso. In this series of paintings and line drawings, Nasso continues her exploration of the relationship between the individual and the universe, and the interactive connection between the two. Through her use of vibrant colors, small dots, and abstract forms, Nasso’s works seek to reveal the transference of energy and the fluidity between our inner and outer worlds.
Seen from a distance, the organic patterns in Nasso’s paintings are reminiscent of images found in oceanography and astronomy. They are rivers and gullies, solar systems and clusters of stars shimmering in deep blues and electric greens. Moving closer, the paintings seem to vibrate, pulsing like cells beneath a microscope, inviting the viewer in for a better look at the colors and forms that compose the works. Hundreds of small points emerge, each a distinct color and tone. These individual points can be seen as pixels, part of a complex code that makes up the whole.
Nasso’s works are informed by what she calls a “vibrational intelligence” of light, color, and sound. Her influences include pointillism as well as the Aboriginal practice of dot painting, where dots are used to simultaneously depict and obscure the sacred and secret parts of traditional stories. The intense meditative quality of Nasso’s paintings can also be seen in her line drawings: a series of geometric patterns composed of delicate lines emerging from a single central point. The mandala-esque nature of the drawings reinforces the theme of interconnectedness within Nasso’s works. Like the title of the show, which derives from a poem by Goethe, her works are a celebration of the energy and radiant movement from the inside out.
Angelina Nasso was born in Sydney, Australia and is currently based in upstate New York. She has studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, the China National Academy of Art and the School of Visual Arts in New York.
