20th ANNUAL BENEFIT AWARDS
The LA Artcore Executive Board of Trustees announces the upcoming LA Artcore’s 20th Annual Awards Benefit.
This popular event supports the non-profit organization’s important mission of exhibiting innovative contemporary art created by regional, national and international artists of all backgrounds, age, gender and race. Hundreds of artists have exhibited at LA Artcore in the past, include: Ed Moses, Laddie John Dill, Solomon Huerta, Ed Gomez and Mario Ybarra Jr.
LA Artcore offers established and emerging artists an opportunity to exhibit their work in our two galleries and to engage in a cultural dialogue with the surrounding constituencies. LA Artcore’s office and main gallery are located at the Union Center for the Arts in downtown Los Angeles, within walking distance of the Geffen Contemporary Art Museum, City Hall and the Japanese National Museum.
The 20th Annual Benefit Awards event will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2008 in the Bunker Hill Ballroom at the Omni Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Our gala benefit attracts up to 300 of the city’s movers and shakers to celebrate the leaders of the local art community.
This year Artcore is proud to honor two nominees: Kenneth A. Colorado and
Martha A. Canales. Mr. Colorado is an international artist who has made a significant contribution to addressing global warming. Two distinguished guests will attend in Mr. Colorado’s honor. One, from the Southern hemisphere and the other from the North. Introducing Mr. Colorado will be Dr. Jorge Oscar Rabassa, whose serves as Director of CDIC-CONICET in Ushuaia, Argentina at Tierra del Fuego, and was former Minister of Education, Culture, Science & Technology for the Province of Tierra del Fuego and the Antarctic Region of Argentina and Patagonia. Also present will be Kira Solovyeva, assistant to the preeminent Dr. Alexander Vasiliev, a leading Russian climate scientist and professor at the Hydrometeorological Center in Moscow, Russia.
Martha A. Canales, a pioneering spirit, educator, promoter, and collector of contemporary Latino Art, will also be recognized. Founder of Abeytia Balderas-Vasques, Fine Arts Consultants in 1988, she went on to found Abeytia-Canales and Canales Fine Art Consultants the following year. The event will take place from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and will start with a cocktail reception accompanied with a silent auction, followed by dinner and a live auction. Entertainment provided by Sean Callery (Emmy Award winning composer of TV series “24”) and his Monday Morning Dixieland Jazz Band.
