"His Father Before Him" is an exhibition of new work  by Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist, Dirk Knibbe. Reflecting the content of Knibbe’s latest book of the same title (published by Black Tent Press), this new body of work examines ingrained legacies and learned methods of failure. A visual and experiential presentation of the book’s content, the works survey legacies of comedic failure by referencing diverse ranks of human history: from American athletics, pornography, and breeding preferences; to faith constructs and communication design.

“His Father Before Him” marks Knibbe’s return to Chicago, and his first solo exhibition in the city.  A School of The Art Institute of Chicago alum, Knibbe has worked on several curatorial projects and is the founder of Black Tent Press; a limited edition art press and record label based in Los Angeles, where he currently resides. The event is presented by The Soccer Club Club, a gallery space on the northwest side of Chicago maintained and curated by Drag City, the hot-shit record label of the same name.
