Chris Blum, a third generation Californian was born in 1944, a Leap Year. He has been inventing the world he lives in ever since. He majored in fine art at The San Francisco Academy of Art and upon graduation, entered the “Mad Men” ad world as an art director. Blum avoided the mundane ad world by working with clients such as Levi Strauss, Harley Davidson, Rolling Stone Magazine, and Apple Computers. He began directing film in 1984, which led to making music videos with U2, Moody Blues, Traffic, Billy Joel (We Didn’t Start the Fire) and his first feature, Big Time with Tom Waits.
In 1998, Blum began sculpting full time. His pieces are in the permanent graphics collections of the Smithsonian as well as in the MOMA in New York and the Achenbach Foundation for Graphic Arts at the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, as well as many private collections.
Currently resides in Sonoma County, CA, married to Suzanne Jierjian Blum.
