DESCRIPTION

Schneider Gallery is pleased to present, Every Breath We Drew, a new portfolio of intimate photographs by Jess T. Dugan. Through a series of highly personal portraits, Dugan examines the power of identity, desire, and connection.

Dugan’s previous work mainly focused on issues of sexuality and identity within the queer and transgender communities. This group of images is based within the same context, but not bound by it. The deep trust between the photographer and the sitter is evident and both parties make themselves highly vulnerable and open, allowing us a view into an otherwise private world. Through the inclusion of self-portraiture, we also see Dugan’s deeply personal journey to fully embody an identity that exists outside of the mainstream and to connect with others in an affectionate, meaningful way.

At the core of Every Breath We Drew is an investigation of how we come to understand, embody and embrace ourselves and how we connect with others on an intimate level.
