Tomorrow We Will Feast Again on What We Catch
Enter a post-apocalyptic hunter-gatherer feast. Artist Laura Ginn and Allegra LaViola Gallery proudly present Tomorrow We Will Feast Again on What We Catch. Guests will gather in a rudimentary dining space where they will be presented with an unusual feast. Imagining a dystopian future in which urban survival will depend upon taking advantage of available resources, guests will dine on one of New York City’s truly sustainable wildlife populations: rats. Chef Yuri Hart will be preparing a variety of tantalizing rodent recipes for daring diners. Brave souls and adventurers are called to break bread and relish the bounty of nature in this survivalist encounter.
Urban living, the uncertain economic climate, and a desire to share immediate, visceral experiences with her audience influence Ginn’s work. For Tomorrow We Will Feast Again Ginn creates an environment for her diners at Allegra La Viola. Simple wood and leather stools and a dining table of salvaged materials, made by Ginn, provide the set for the feast. Ginn serves as hostess at the dinner, draped in a garment of rat pelts she has made by skinning and tanning the rats herself. Video and photographs in the space allow diners a glimpse into the ad-hoc crash course in self-reliance that Ginn has been engaged in over the past few years.
Diners must be daring, but allowance to current social memes is made. Rats are sourced from a clean and safe facility and have been taste tested by Hart, Ginn and their brave compatriots.
