This workshop focuses on the development of a cohesive presentation of artwork. Emphasis is placed on the strengthening of drawing and painting skills. While working from observation of the clothed model, and working on self-portraiture and landscapes, students will be guided to complete work to be used in their portfolios for high school, college and graduate school admission.  Assistance in organizing and mounting portfolio pieces and instruction on photographing, editing and copying work for college submission via disc or will be included. (Students must bring their own laptop computer.)

Workshop 1: July 9-12
Self-Portraiture in Line, Tone and Color
This workshop covers self-portraiture using linear and tonal approaches to drawing. Students may work with black and white charcoal and sanguine conté, reed pen and ink, and silverpoint.  Pastel painters are welcome.  Thorough explanations of each technique will be given on an individual basis.

Workshop 2: July 16-19
Landscape Drawing and Painting in Central Park
This workshop covers plein air drawing (using reed pen and ink, or charcoal) or painting (using full color pastel or watercolor). Both monochromatic and color thumbnail studies will precede longer studies. Individual work in a series is encouraged.
