"38th St. 2pm" By Diana Leidel and Cat Del Buono
This multi-media installation is a meditation on a typical block of Manhattan's Fashion District. The installation consists of flowing streams of intimately scaled images, video, and sound that encircle the walls of the gallery, immersing the visitor in the atmosphere of the block and the variety, color and relentless pace of Fashion District daily life.
The images were captured by walking the length of the block using an iPhone and Flip camera during the weekday post-lunch period. As part of the project’s ground rules, the photos have been printed, full frame, without manipulation, and the videos and audio are "moving snapshots" of actual moments on the street. The walls of the gallery contain rows of 5" x 7" photos, grouped sequentially, dotted by small video screens, shown in continuous loops. The wall-mounted video "moving interruptions" will also contain sound that captures the energy of the street. A live sound and video feed will also be incorporated. The ongoing sound and images of passers-by will be projected live on the front window of the gallery during gallery hours. This "living" video feed of constant "passage" will connect the viewers in the gallery to the continuing experience of life on the street.
