Scroll for Japan
10019 New York
The Art Students League of New York is pleased to invite you to a special viewing of an extraordinary 30-foot-long scroll, hand-painted by Jave Yoshimoto in the Japanese style of ukiyo-e woodblock prints.
In describing the origin of the ten-month art project, Mr. Yoshimoto said, “To combat social amnesia in the internet age, I wanted to create a lasting memorial that would long honor the victims and survivors of the Tohoku earthquake.”
The unveiling will take place May 20th at the Art Students League of New York (details below).
Eighty percent of the proceeds raised will go towards on-the-ground support of survivors in the area hit hardest by the March 11, 2011 earthquake/tsunami in northern Japan.
