the figment festival at
Governor's Island, New York City . The festival is free and the ferry to Governor's Island is free. As GI is now being "rethunk" from it's original role as a military installation, the New York arts community is very much in the forfront of developing the place. As I previously mentioned, the figment festival is concieved of as an east coast burning man festival. There will be massive press there on Friday when the festival opens for the weekend.
Brenner has 2 exhibitions in the festival: one is called "Daddy Parks:My Olmsted Collection" and it is an interpretive series of works based on the designs of Olmsted, Central Parks designer. The other series is called "Hearts" and it is a series of glass hearts all about human emotions. Beryl Brenner will be lecturing at 4PM on 6/28/08 and 6/29/08 about Olmsted and his works in Building 125, Pershing hall, a magnificent building with some gorgeous WPA murals. The island is very historic and very beautiful. The exhibition itself will be in Bldg. 110 which is not far from where you exit the ferry.
