DESCRIPTION

White Box is pleased to announce its Spring Benefit 2012, honoring the extraordinary work of artist, architect and activist Ai Weiwei with the 1st Richard J. Massey Foundation - White Box Arts and Humanity Award, created by internationally renowned artist Ivan Navarro.  At 9PM, Ai Weiwei will appear LIVE via Skype to accept this unique artwork and will make a brief statement. A live webcast of the entire event can be viewed at www.whiteboxny.org.

The benefit event will be hosted by Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky, and will include live and silent auctions with Philip De Pury's CK Swett, featuring works by artists such as Shirin NeshatVito AcconciSanti MoixRoss BlecknerPat SteirJames NaresDan Graham, Mary Mattingly and many more. In addition, a special section of unique artist-made postcards inscribed with messages to Ai Weiwei will be offered for sale. Following the award presentation is a special performance by Paul D. Miller, and a duet-in-progress performed for the first time by Robert Swinston (Director of Choregraphy, Merce Cunningham Trust) and Vicky Shick (Bessie Award-winning dancer and choreographer).
