DESCRIPTION

Indonesian dancer Pak Achmad Farmis presents an engaging West Javanese martial arts demonstration. Learn how martial arts movements, called pencak silat, are incorporated into dance and participate in a sitting Sumatran dance workshop.

Pak Farmis received his first degree from the National Arts Institute (formerly ASTI) in Bandung in 1990, and a master's degree from the National Arts University (STSI) in Surakarta in 1995. He has received numerous awards, both regional and national, for silat, dance performance, and composition, and has represented Indonesia as a member of many cultural delegations through the world. He is master teacher of the local dance company Harsanari.
