Hendershot Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Last Seduction, a two-person exhibition featuring videos by Shannon Plumb and photography by Marianna Rothen.  The exhibition will be open to the public from March 29 to May 3, 2012, with an opening reception on Thursday, March 29, from 6 – 8 pm.

Last Seduction is an exhibition of ominous beauty captured through the lens of two female artists. Borrowing its title from the 1994 film, this show explores the titillating and mysterious nature of the femme fatale. Quaint photographs and videos reveal the clandestine desires of female stereotypes, from the domesticated housewife to the timeless doe-eyed ingénue.

At first appearing to depict eroticized female archetypes, the characters embodied by Plumb in this show reveal humor inspired by silent film legends such as Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. Rothen’s whimsical photographs explore the troubled innocence and emotional disquiet of her seductive dames. Inspired by European art house films of the 60's and 70's, her ambiguous narratives seem familiar while possessing a haze of an uncertain melancholia. Intimate moments are exposed through the artists’ works, as we become the voyeurs in their portrayals of women in the Last Seduction
