DESCRIPTION

MATIAS works with paint and carpet on panel—texturizing, painting and burning into the surface of the fibers. His practice simultaneously embraces art history, an interest in the trajectories of modern movements, and a cavalier sense of innovation. While his process is bold and unusual, the seriousness with which he treats the history of painting and composition is evident and gives the works a strong sense of self.

MATIAS was born 1980, in Mendoza, Argentina. He received his MFA in 2009 from School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Recent exhibitions include A Person of Color at the Green Gallery and A Thousand Light Years at (e)merge Artist Platform. He is part of numerous private and public collections, among them the Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Rosario. He now lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
