TAO / THE WAY
From September 29th through November 5th, Arts World Financial Center will present new works by artist Adam T. Bernard at the Courtyard Gallery.
Tao/The Way features over 50 works of art including large-scale ink paintings, beautiful tea ceramics, and abstract expressionist calligraphy by Bernard, who spent 11 years studying Taoism and Chan (Zen) in Taiwan while working for a range of local artists, from a master potter to a scroll-mounter.
Bernard abandoned an entertainment industry career in Los Angeles to start a new life in Taiwan in 1999. Becoming fluent in Chinese and deeply immersed in Chinese classical culture, he spent over a decade immersed in apprenticeships and spiritual studies while in Taiwan. The exhibition, curated and designed by the artist, includes works created during both his time abroad and since his recent return to New York. The exhibit is designed to guide the viewer through a visual journey from traditional forms to modern interpretations that represent the heart and soul of Chinese culture.
“Adam Bernard's life experiences, both in Taiwan and more recently in New York, are evidenced in these breathtakingly beautiful works of art that offer an oasis of peace and serenity amid the bustle of the World Financial Center,” said Debra Simon, Artistic Director of Arts World Financial Center. “We're thrilled to be hosting the first ever exhibition from a new talent that inspires visitors to take a deep breath, pause for a moment, and truly reflect."
