Maysey Craddock: Other Spaces
Landscape painter, Maysey Craddock is to have her second solo exhibition open at Nancy Margolis Gallery in September. Craddock paints on an unusual material, recycled grocery bags sewn together with silk thread. Often stained and ragged, Craddock discovered that the interesting surface textures added a distinctive quality to the paintings. The starting point and inspiration for her paintings are landscapes in the throes of neglect and disintegration around Memphis, Tennessee where she lives. These abandoned small towns, fast disappearing, represent a life no longer viable. Captivated and surprised by the beauty in these environments Craddock translates her impressions into beautiful abstract paintings.
