Andy Robert's Thesis Show: I Witness Murambi
In an installation --assemblage of volley ball net, French and UN flags hang from off the ceiling; below handmade balls and red white and blue taped lines --help to further denote French territory. 2 peace sign shirts sculptures hang from the side and around the corner a gate which reads trespassing violators will be shot ...survivors again.
Your invited to attend:
Andy Robert's Thesis Show: I Witness Murambi, in the L-Shape Gallery CalArt, from 04/23/2011 - 04/30/2011.
This past summer I visited Rwanda; through the CalArts Summer Rwanda Program, where I witnessed Murambi Memorial Site --where more then 45,000 victims were killed during the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. The site is situated in the zone of Turquoise area where French soldiers had their headquarters, launching Operation Turquoise, playing volleyball on top of mass graves containing genocide victims. Now a site which displays 850 preserved bodies as victims of genocide --a memorial to this international tragedy.
