Nocturnal Kosmos is a solo exhibition showcasing new photographic work by Tony Maridakis, a recent graduate of UC Berkeley Extension’s Post-Baccalaureate program in Visual Arts. Nocturnal Kosmos will be on view at UC Berkeley Extension’s SOMA Center Gallery, 95 Third Street (at Mission), first floor.
The exhibition will open on May 2nd, 2011, and run through May 18th, 2011. An opening reception will be held Thursday, May 5th, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The images of Tony Maridakis present interpretations of the modern world that transport the viewer to an altered sense of place and time, simultaneously foreign and familiar – like places we might visit in a dream or memory. Images of Modern Ruins draw on iconic structure to elicit an ethereal quality that often eludes the daytime conscious mind. Space and time both extend and stop in the work allowing the framing to become a portal to the beyond.
A number of photographs from the Modern Ruins series will be on display in the gallery. In addition to the photographic work there will be an audio component to the exhibition. To view work by Tony Maridakis please visit: www.tonymaridakis.com
